Massage is rooted in human culture. The Chinese were practising massage as long ago as 3000 BCE and in India ancient sacred texts include massage in their guidelines for health and wellbeing. Ancient Egyptian tombs also contain evidence that massage was part of their culture.

The Olympic athletes of Ancient Greece used massage as part of their training regimes as well as before and after events and the Romans often rounded off a trip to their famous baths with a massage appointment!

These days massage is still popular with sports people, office workers and stressed out mums alike.

What to expect from your massage appointment
Your massage will last 30, 45 or 60 minutes – the choice is yours and longer appointments are available. You can have a full body massage, or just focus on problem areas. Each appointment will start off with a consultation to assess your specific needs. If you’re worried about anything, don’t hesitate to say so.

The treatment is very sensitive to pressure and takes into account the delicate or tender areas of your body, so it should be comfortable and soothing.

Before your massage appointment
It’s best to avoid heavy meals and alcohol in the hours leading up to your massage.

After your massage appointment
You will feel very relaxed and able to savour the feeling of having every muscle in your body gently stretched and smoothed out.

All massage can leave you feeling thirsty and needing to go to the toilet more than usual – this is because it’s got your lymph circulation going and your body is flushing out toxins. Drink plenty of water afterwards!
